The Education Inclusion Tutor (EIT) is a qualified teacher with subject specialisms in Science, English and Maths. This tutor has experience lecturing trainee teachers, in the areas of SEN, EAL, Behaviour Management, Diversity, Inclusion, SEAL, Safeguarding and Pastoral Support. The EIT provides personalised and differentiated academic and pastoral support, primarily on a one to one basis with vulnerable and challenging students, who may have been excluded from mainstream school or students who find it challenging to achieve their full potential within mainstream classes; the aim being to provide students with the academic, behavioural and emotional skills, knowledge and understanding to reintegrate into mainstream school.
The EIT is committed to the holistic development of students and takes full responsibility for the planning, preparation and assessment of students, as well as their personalised timetables, PSPs, Pupil Profiles, targets for learning, behaviour, social and emotional development; targets that are reviewed on a regular basis with the students and their parents/carers. The tutor works closely and liaises with parents, carers, teaching staff, Academic Mentors and all involved in students’ educational development to ensure that they progress holistically to meet their targets. This support can take place via home tuition, one to one and/or small group tuition/pastoral sessions at school or individually within mainstream classes. Students requiring such support and intervention are identified by the Head of Department, the SENCO Assistant, the Cheney Plus Team, the member of staff responsible for LAC, the EAL Team, teaching staff and Academic Mentors. Academic achievement, self-esteem, personal responsibility for learning and behaviour, respect, resilience, motivation and empowerment are all areas that the EIT is dedicated and committed to achieving for and with students.
