Education Inclusion Tutor

The Education Inclusion Tutors at Cheney are qualified teachers with subject specialisms in science, english and maths. The tutors have a range of experience, including lecturing trainee teachers, in the areas of SEN, EAL, behaviour management, diversity, inclusion, SEAL (the social and emotional aspects of learning), safeguarding and pastoral support. The tutors provide personalised and differentiated academic and pastoral support, on a one-to-one and small group basis, for students who find it challenging to achieve their full potential within mainstream classes. The aim is to provide students with the academic, behavioural and emotional skills, knowledge and understanding to manage and achieve in mainstream school.

The tutors are committed to the holistic personal and educational development of students, and take full responsibility for the planning, preparation and assessment of students, their personalised timetables, pastoral support plans, 'Pupil Profiles', and targets for learning, behaviour, social and emotional development. These targets are reviewed on a regular basis with the students and their parents/carers - and tutors work closely with teaching staff, mentors and all involved in students’ educational development, to ensure students' progress to meet their targets.

This support for a very small number of students can take place in a number of ways: with home tuition, and/or one-to-one and/or small group tuition/pastoral sessions at school, or individually within mainstream classes. Students requiring this support are identified by a range of people in school, including the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, the Assistant SENCo, the Cheney Plus team, the designated teacher for Looked After Children, the team teaching English as an Additional Language, and teaching staff and mentors.

Academic achievement, self-esteem, personal responsibility for learning and behaviour, respect, resilience, motivation and empowerment are all areas that the Education Inclusion Tutors are dedicated and committed to achieving for and with our students across Years 7 to 11.
