Fundraising for Flora and Fauna in Nicaragua

Fundraising for Flora and Fauna in Nicaragua

Monday was a special non-uniform day at Cheney. Students wore something red for St Georges day, and paid a pound towards the Leon-Link Butterfly Project, in Nicaragua.

Thank you to our students and parents who raised over £700 to support the project, which is creating a wildlife haven in urban Leon, Nicaragua.  Cheney Leon-Link has already donated £150 which will be used to build the infrastructure for the wildlife garden, and to initiate the breeding of the butterflies and other insects who will live there.

As well as supporting vibrant insect life, there are plans for a fish tank, turtles and educational facilities. The dual aims of the project are to enable urban students to experience elements of the natural environment which they cannot easily access, and to support the repopulation of native species into areas where they were once common. When completed, the space which will be accessible to over 1000 students from various inner-city schools in Leon.

Our students will work on the project when they travel to Nicaragua in 2019.
