French Revolution Lecture for Year 12 Historians

French Revolution Lecture for Year 12 Historians

Professor Robert Gildea (Worcester College, Oxford) came to Cheney on 27th March to talk to Year 12  historians about the changes caused by the French Revolution.  He examined all the ideas and concepts which students might want to use in their exams, and which explain why it was so difficult to change the basis of governmental authority so completely and so quickly after 1789.  He explored how the collapse of any kind of consensus, and war from 1792 led to the Terror and then to Napoleon.  We very much enjoyed Professor Gildea’s talk and are very grateful to him for coming to Cheney. He will return in April to talk to Year Twelve and Thirteen students of French about the French Revolution.

Mr Gimson, Teacher of History.
