Rocket Cars are a Whizz!

Rocket Cars are a Whizz!

Earlier this year, three Year 7 D&T groups built rocket cars with Ms Basterfield, expertly crafted into a variety of streamlined shapes from foam blocks and painted in a rainbow of colours.  And, on Wednesday 7 March, they finally got to race them...

Three STEM ambassadors from the RAF came in and we closed the tennis courts to provide a safe race area.  The first launch was a dud with Aleemah’s rocket not igniting but it was swiftly swapped and worked second time.  Every car after that worked, even though it was touch-and-go with a few that flipped into their sides or had wheels that flew off!

There were three winners in each class, who will hopefully form the teams that will go to race in the regional finals in May at RAF Brize Norton.  Please note that the rules had to be consulted to decide what to do with cars that flipped sideways or had suspiciously short times due to escaped wheels. Congratulations to Elspeth, Senthil, Grace, Juhaina , Abdul, Marianne, Zuzana, Zidane and Suhayla.
