Cheney School

School Closure Procedure

Notice - 27 February 2018:

During periods of adverse weather warnings, the school will aim to remain open unless you are told otherwise through email, on the website or social media.

In the event of snowfall during the day, we will assess conditions on site.  Depending on the severity and conditions, normal lessons may be reduced and students assembled in groups under the supervision of authorised members of staff. Students could also be sent home early if we believe keeping them on site is of risk to their safety. The school will always communicate an early closure through normal channels, but cannot always seek parental permission directly before sending students home early. If your child should be not be allowed home early, please let us know by emailing and we will endeavour to keep your child at school until the end of the day. We cannot take any responsibility for students travel to/from school and we advise parents make their own assessment of their child’s journey based on the conditions. Updated information, if we do feel the need to close the school, will be circulated to the whole school community by email, placed on the school’s website and social media (our Facebook and Twitter pages).

If your child is scheduled to go on a school trip this week, please keep an eye on the school website where a notice will be posted if it has to be cancelled.

The decision to close the school is never taken lightly, and is always as a last resort, when the health and safety of students and staff are at risk. We understand closing the school is inconvenient, and can disrupt student learning.  In order to minimise this we will publish work for students on Show my Homework.
