Tim Lawrence, Head of Sixth Form, commented that ‘...the results are well deserved, and a reflection of hard work by students, staff and parents. We are particularly pleased with the results achieved by our highest-achieving students who are facing the strongest competition for university places.’

Some notable individual performances:

Janani Arunasalam, who has been awarded a community scholarship by Oxford Brookes University in recognition of her academic achievement in the face of challenging circumstances, and the fact that she is an excellent role model for younger students. She needed BBC for accounting and finance and achieving A*BB.

Reza Eslami, who joined Cheney School at the end of January 2010 having missed over half the teaching for AS courses. He had not previously studied his chosen courses in English. He has achieved ABB and has secured a place to read Dental Materials at Queen Mary, University of London.

Five students have achieved three A* grades each: Rosie Sparrowhawk (securing a place to read Mathematics at the University of Manchester); John Sandford O’Neill (securing a place to read Natural Sciences at UCL); Peter Stead (securing a place to read Physics at the University of Birmingham); Eloise Hendy and Hannah Philp (both planning to apply to University for next year).

Emily Fernandes achieved A*A*A and has secured a place to read Geography at Cambridge University. Three more students achieved two A* grades each, with a further nine achieving one. Kibriya Rahman has secured a place to read Mathematics at Oxford University having achieved A*AA last year.
