Parents

Here at Cheney school we want every parent to feel confident in how they can support their child with their education. As a school we enjoy close and positive relationships with parents and carers. We offer a number of ways we help with making sure you are aware of the progress your child is making. Through SERCO you can see in real time the progress of your son/daughter, this facility enables you to see events ,attendance and reports all on line. In order to access this service you need to make sure you bring to school photo ID and we will provide you with a secure password. We trialled this with the Parent Teacher association last year and found that parents were really supportive of this opportunity so this went live for all parents in September.

We have a college based support system which enables parents’ direct access to their college staff.  Tutor groups are small and are vertically arranged giving high levels of individual support to every student. All details of college staff are on our website, so please do not hesitate to contact them should you wish.

We have three reports during the school year where information is provided for parents and a subject parent evening for every year group, in addition to this for students in examination years there are additional information evenings. Every parent and student is invited to meet with the College tutor at least once an academic year. After each report the tutor speaks with their student and helps with target setting. The use of the student planner is very important as students write in their homework/timetable and targets. The planners are signed weekly, and we ask that parents/carers also sign the planners.

For parents/carers of Year 7 students we hold parent support workshops to aid transition , and an August mailing is sent preferably through Parentmail which enables parents/carers to receive emails and text messages .

Our website also provides useful additional information from departments to the regular Head teacher blogs which provide a snapshot of key events or student news items. We also have a school newsletter,  Cheney News which provides parents and students with news items, many of which are written by the student body.

As a school we have regular achievement events which span sports, arts, community and academic awards and parents/carers enjoy these opportunities to celebrate their son/daughters achievements. These provide more informal opportunities to meet with other parents/carers and Cheney school staff.

Our Parent Teacher Association is well established and active and provides parents with a supportive body and one which supports the work of the school. The PTA always welcomes all new parents/carers, and is open to all parents /carers of students at Cheney School .
