Holiday Policy

Full attendance is vital for your child’s educational progress. Absences due to holidays taken during term time can hinder academic attainment.  Students have approximately 13 weeks holiday from school each year, adequate time for family holidays to be taken.

However, the school, at its discretion, may authorise up to five days holiday absence per academic year, within the following guidelines:

• There are certain key points in a student’s school career during which no holiday will be authorised.  This includes Term 1 of Year 7 and during all of Year 10 and Year 11 as students are undergoing controlled assessments for GCSE exams and continuous assessment for Btec exams.

• No holiday will be authorised for any student with attendance below 93%.

• A holiday request form must be completed and a reason why the holiday needs to be taken during term time must be given.  Request for holiday must be submitted at least two weeks in advance.

In recognition of Cheney’s particular international ethos, once during a student’s Cheney career the school will consider an application for a holiday of more than five days but no longer than 20 days.
