THE NEW SCHOOL DAY - FROM SEPTEMBER 2018

We have decided to make some changes to the structure of the day to enhance the learning and opportunities of our young people within the classroom.

The new school day will be as follows:

Time
Tutor Time 8.30-8.55am
Transition between lessons 8.55-9.00am
Period 1 9.00-10.00am
Break 10.00-10.30am
Period 2 10.30-11.30am
Transition between lessons 11.30-11.35am
Period 3 11.35-12.35pm
Lunch 12.35-1.05pm
Period 4 1.05-2.05pm
Transition between lessons 2.05-2.10pm
Period 5 2.10-3.10pm

The changes will come in to play from the start of the next academic year - Monday 3 September 2018

There are a number of reasons for the changes to the day:

  • Allowing a 5-minute transition between lessons will provide teachers time for learning conversations with students at the end of lesson each as per the new Respect for Learning policy and procedure.
  • The transition time between lessons means that time spent learning in the classroom will be a full hour. Currently time is lost at the beginning of each lesson whilst students get to their next lesson and get themselves ready to learn.
  • A longer tutor time allows for a richer tutor experience and for topics to be covered in more detail.
  • Tutor time at the beginning of the day allows tutors to assess vulnerable students’ needs before lessons start and offer additional support if required.
