Like all schools, Cheney has faced of significant funding cuts and increased overheads. We are fortunate to have the support and expertise of our fantastic PTA, Cheney Friends, who work tirelessly throughout the year to raise funds to support a range of projects in the school.  Since March 2020, we have also run an annual, targetted, Fundraising Appeal, where we ask our community for financial support for a specific project or projects.

Cheney School - Music and Drama departments' Fundraising Appeal

Cheney school are raising funds to buy musical instruments and equipment to upgrade facilities for the music and drama departments. Cheney school is proud of its diversity and its inclusive ethos, prioritising music and drama to further its cohesive and creative community. Pupils are given many opportunities to study music and drama and to take part in a wide range of concerts, productions and other events. The school has a large orchestra, girls’ and boys’ choirs, drumming and several other ensemble groups, and many students participate in piano and instrumental lessons.

The school is also expanding its music technology department, where students can gain equivalent GCSE and A level qualifications (with the same UCAS grade weightings). Students can develop skills, appreciation and understanding of all aspects of music and music production, and music technology is becoming a highly sought-after qualification for the workplace and for courses in higher education. It is an inclusive area of learning, open to pupils who may not have been able to learn a musical instrument and it works “to compliment many other qualifications through nurturing creativity, independence, teamwork, as well as IT, analytical and critical skills.” (Cheney Music department) .

We would like to thank the whole Cheney community for their support with our remote learning appeal.

We have raised the sum of £28,257.99, including Gift Aid on donations made via the Cheney Friends. This will allow us to provide a heavily subsidised laptop to every child eligible for Free School Meals, and will mean that we are able to retain many of the advantages of remote learning into the future.

The appeal is now closed. Any further funds raised will be used to enhance the student experience: provision of additional resources, in-house alternative provision, pastoral support, investment in IT infrastructure, environmental improvement projects, inviting guest speakers/performers, to name a few.
