KEY STAGE 3
At Cheney School we aim to inspire all students to develop their creative skills and thinking. At KS3, students study a broad range of contemporary and historical artists and artworks, through practical investigations, discussion and written work. We aim to introduce all students to drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, ceramic and sculpture over the two years. This year, students in Year 7 will begin by exploring 2D and 3D cakes and confectionary in our “Curiouser & Curiouser” project. Year 8 are investigating shadows and negative space before moving to the gruesome cabinet of curiousity.
KEY STAGE 4
We currently run the Edexcel Art GCSE. This is an exciting qualification for all students entering Key Stage 4, building on practical skills taught at Key Stage 3. Students have the opportunity to develop independent projects and portfolios under the titles “Fragments” and "Beginning and/or End" . We believe that all students should have personal choice when investigating their chosen theme in Art, and structure our lessons to accommodate this and promote independence and imagination. All students have the opportunity to further develop their skills in drawing, painting, multiple printmaking techniques, sculpture and ceramics, art textiles, mixed media and surface work.
KEY STAGE 5
We offer students the Edexcel A Level Fine Art. This course offers personal portfolio based development which is supported by rigourous contextual research and self evaluation. A Level students at Cheney all have the opportunity to use our Sixth Form studio space for independent work and group crits.
