Book of the Week

Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevres

This book was recommended to me by Charlotte in year 8 and I read it over half term. What a treat and a total page turner!

13th Century France. Ismae escapes from a forced marriage to sanctuary in the Convent of St Mortain. Here she learns that she has been blessed with dangerous gifts and she is trained by the nuns to become an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to death. Her first assignment takes her into the high court of Brittany alongside Duval, a handsome knight and confidant of Lady Katherine. Courtly intrigue and romance ensue, all set in richly described historical detail.

Recommended for all year groups, this is a great read that mixes fantasy with history. This is the first in a series of four books, all available from the library.
