U14 basketball team trip to the National Basketball Arena in Manchester
On Monday we took our Year 9 Boys Basketball team on a trip up the M6 to Manchester to play Sale Grammar in the National Schools cup. Unfortunately the boys lost 94-57, but they showed great determination and togetherness throughout. They have taken great pride in being one of the top 16 schools in the country and being able to play in the national basketball arena. After half term they along with several other Cheney teams will look to defend their county champion statuses.

U14 basketball team's big win in the Dynamik National Schools Cup
Huge congratulations to the U14 boys basketball team who travelled up to Wolverhampton on Monday to play St Peter's Collegiate Academy in the Dynamik National Schools Cup.
The boys played superbly, working hard as a team throughout to ensure they won 78-41! In the next round, they will play Sale Grammar School with a place in the quarter finals up for grabs.

New Year 10 netball team success
Many congratulations to the year 10 netball team who on Monday after school played against Rye St Antony and won 13-9 - in what was only their second netball game!

Year 9 Basketball team reaches National semi-finals
Massive congratulations to the U14 boys basketball team who last Tuesday (25 April) beat Cardinal Newman Catholic School (Luton) 82-51 to make the semi finals of the National Competition. This is the furthest Cheney School has ever got by far - a huge achievement and testament to the work of the team and the coaches.
The team was Roberta N, Caleb M, Basil E, Daniel K, Aayan H, Ayham A, Woodley O, Jack S, Marvin V, Morten N, Elijah K, Arthur R.
A special mention needs to go to the following 5 players who were superb yesterday in a high level game:- Jack, Marvin, Morten, Elijah, Arthur.

Basketball County Champions - U15, U16 and U19 Girls
Massive Congratulations to the Year 10 (and some Year 9) Girls who last week won the U15 County Cup Final to add to their victory in the U16 County final several weeks ago.
Well done to Marianna B, Amelie F, Isla A, Livvy B, Thea P, Andrea R, Georgia E, Millie L, Zanna H, Roberta N, Zeianne E, Kitan S, Margarette P.
Some of these Girls also played in the U19 Girls County Final which we won at the end of February, beating Cherwell 31-23.

Football Under 15 Update
Well done to our Year 10 boys football team who are through to the County Cup quarter finals, following convincing wins over Carterton and Europa Schools. We will be travelling to either Bicester or Cokethorpe in the next round.

City Athletics Event
On 11th May Cheney students from year 7,8 and 9 went to the City Athletics Event at Horspath Athletics Track. The day was rainy however student spirits were high and participation in the event was of a great standard.
We school took the following students:
Year 7 : Ruby R, Asha H, Aimee GN, Annabelle P, James R, Umar S, Oliver W, Theo P and Ilias A.
Year 8/9 combined team: Emily C, Lara WJ, Amy B, Chloe K, Isla A, Marianna B, Georgia E,
Jack S, Layton M, Alex G, Ben J, Harry C, Khalil H, Nicholas B, Adam A
The results of the competition were:

Well Done to all who took part and for doing your best when the weather, on the day, was not kind to us. Thank you for also representing Cheney in a fantastic way showing real spirit for all others when competing. Following this event a number of students have been selected to represent the City Athletics team in the County Competition running on 11th June. The students who have been chosen based on their score or position at the City Event are Harry C, Ben J, Lara WJ, Ruby R and Umar S. Good Luck to those athletes this weekend and we all look forward to hearing how you get on.

Rowing News
Five Year 7 boys passed their capsize drill at Falcon Boat Club and are now ready for river rowing. Year 8 pupil Logan L demonstrated confidence drills in a single scull and then showed the Year 7s how to correctly rescue themselves from capsize.

Poppy, Keyana, Jess, Olivia, Ruby, Mya-Rose, Annie, and Asha represented Cheney School against 10 other schools in Oxfordshire County. We made it to the semifinals, but unfortunately lost to penalties.
The player of the match were given to our goal keeper Poppy for their excellent effort and performance throughout the competition, well done! (Miss Millard - Teacher of PE).

Year 7 Indoor Athletics
