Taking Responsibility for our Waste

Thank you to all of you who are remembering to use the bins correctly. We should all give ourselves a pat on the back because we are doing brilliantly.

RED BINS OUTSIDE

Please remember that the RED bins are for recyclable materials only. It’s really important not to put the wrong stuff in them, so if you are not sure if your bit of rubbish should go in there, don’t put it in. When we all get it right, we should be able to look inside a RED bin and it should look “clean”. So:

  • NO CRISP PACKETS ( PLEASE PUT THESE IN THE BOXES PROVIDED IN YOUR YEAR AREA/THE CANTEEN ETC)
  • NO FOOD OR FOODY PACKAGING
  • NO CHEWING GUM
  • NO LIQUID (JUST EMPTY IT OUT)

If this “dirty” stuff goes in there it contaminates everything else and the entire content of the bin can no longer be recycled. It’s pretty gross picking chicken bones, chewing gum and noodles out of a red bin and a massive use of time and energy which could be used for other fabulous environmental initiatives, so just try and be mindful when you are disposing of your waste.

CRISP PACKETS

We collect these separately as they cannot go in the general recycling. There are boxes in the year areas, the sports hall and in the canteen and we will put a special crisp packet bin out by the snack pod as soon as we can this term.

ON THE FIELD

Staff on duty should bring out a clear bag to collect recycling. If they don’t, you can always offer to go and get one from Ms Shepherds office!

FOOD WASTE

We collect food waste in the canteen. Please only put food waste in these bins, NO PACKAGING AND NO CHEWING GUM…it’s pretty gross to have to pick it out!

Thank you for all your efforts – together we can make a difference.

We are hoping to get into all assemblies over these first few weeks of term to remind you about recycling.
