Head's Welcome

Welcome to Cheney School. I do hope the website gives you an insight into life at Cheney, a school which has been part of the life and education of Oxford since 1797. The school’s success is built on traditional values, as well as progressive thinking. We have high expectations of all students and place a very high value on making sure every student reaches their full potential. Academic excellence is the main focus of our work here at Cheney and many of our students go on to study at the best universities across the country. We believe in facilitating our students’ personal development by offering a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities as well as delivering excellent pastoral care to support them through their school life.

One of our unique features is our international ethos which is promoted through our International School status. Students at Cheney School are well prepared for the challenges and opportunities which await them in an increasingly demanding global workplace. Our school ethos is built on the key principle of providing an exciting learning environment where enthusiastic and skilled staff engage all students.

Cheney is very fortunate to be the only school in the UK which has its own museum spread throughout its site in several striking displays. The Rumble Museum is a unique partnership between an educational charity and a school. The Iris Project, a charity which promotes learning about the ancient world, is working with Cheney School to grow a museum within a school. The museum is working within the Arts Council Museum Accreditation Scheme and contains over 200 artefacts from a range of eras from stone age tools to modern day items.

You would be very welcome to visit Cheney School if you would like to do so, so you can see the school in action.
