The author Lily Bailey returns to Cheney

On Tuesday 20th February, we were delighted to welcome back the author Lily Bailey. Lily is the author of two books for young people, When I See Blue and the newly published When I Feel Red. She was visiting Cheney as only the second school on her promotion tour for her new book and we were delighted to welcome her back after her brilliant presentation to year 8 in the 22/23 academic year.

When I See Blue and When I Feel Red are both based on Lily’s own experiences of mental health problems and her diagnosis of OCD and dyspraxia. Students learnt more about how it feels to be neurodivergent and how she became an author.

Lily spoke to about 150 year 7 students in the library during periods 3 and 4 and she then ran a workshop with the Cheney creative writing club.

It was brilliant for students to meet a published author and to hear about her experiences. I strongly recommend both books (I was privileged to be given an advance copy of When I Feel Red before Christmas) as they are both wonderful stories and lots of our young readers will recognise and empathise with many of the experiences of Ben and April, the main characters in the books.

There are lots of copies of both titles available to borrow from the library. Students can reserve one via the library app.
