German Trip to Magdalen College School

MCSGermantrip_Feb2024

This week, the GCSE and A Level German students were invited to attend the “Remembering the GDR” conference at Magdalen College School (MCS). They attended along with MCS students, and others from across the region. We had the opportunity to listen to a guest lecture from Professor Karen Leeder of the University of Oxford about life in the former East Germany and how the GDR is remembered today in German society and in the wider world.

Later, the students took part in a workshop including translation exercises, cultural and historical research and a creative task to memorialise an aspect of life in the former East Germany.

Masha and Leila from Year 10 were chosen to show their memorial drawing of a Trabant transformed into a memorial garden to the group.

The trip provided an excellent insight into the A-Level for our GCSE students and some very useful revision for our sixth formers!
